New Delhi: The microblogging site on Saturday opened former Congress national president Rahul Gandhi's Twitter account nearly a week after it was locked. A Congress leader said that the accounts of Rahul Gandhi as well as senior party leaders have been opened. Rahul Gandhi had launched a scathing attack on Twitter on Friday in the backdrop of a controversy over the blocking of his Twitter account and alleged that the US company was interfering in India's political process and attacking the democratic structure.

He had also claimed that Twitter was biased and was acting as the Government had said. It may be recalled that Twitter had blocked the Twitter accounts of Rahul Gandhi, Congress, and several senior party leaders. A few days ago, the former Congress President's Twitter account was closed for sharing a picture of a nine-year-old girl who met her parents in Delhi.

The Congress had said on Thursday that the Twitter handle of it and several of its leaders had been locked down by the microblogging platform, though Twitter in its reply had said that the move was taken for violating the rules. The Congress said that Twitter handles its organization General Secretary KC Venugopal, chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, general secretary Ajay Maken, Jitendra Singh, MP Manikam Tagore, Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev, spokesperson Pawan Kheda and several other leaders have been locked.
