Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb on Thursday blamed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of "excluding" the northeast in a tweet about India being a "union" of states, saying Gandhi's "ignorance" was the cause "for the party's wipeout" from the state.
The Tripura Chief Minister slammed Mr Gandhi, saying he had "forgotten" the northeastern states.

Mr Gandhi was also criticised by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for failing to name the North Eastern Region in his tweet. Mr Gandhi, according to the Tripura Chief Minister, had "excluded" the state "like his great grandpa" and India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

"Mr. Rahul Gandhi has ignored our beautiful North Eastern states in order to preach. He ignored our region, just like his great grandfather? We, too, are pleased to be a part of India. Your party's entire destruction in the Northeast is due to your stupidity "In a tweet, Mr Deb wrote.

Assam's chief minister slammed Mr Gandhi, saying, "India is far more than simply a union," and asking what the Congress leader's problem was with "country, nationality, and nationalism." Mr Sarma accused Mr. Rahul Gandhi of having a "tukde-tuke" attitude, saying that "Bharat cannot be kept captive to it." He said that in his tweet, Mr Gandhi had forgotten about the northeast and spoke of India expanding from Gujarat to West Bengal.

"India is much more than a union. We are a proud our country. Your tukde tukde ideology cannot keep Bharat hostage. What exactly is your issue with the words "nation," "nationality," and "nationalism"? And hello, we North Easters exist outside Bengal "Mr. Biswa said.

Mr Gandhi accused the BJP-led government of "insulting the soul of India" in a tweet on Thursday. "There is strength in our Union. Our Union of Cultures. Our Union of Diversity. Our Union of Languages. Our Union of People. Our Union of States. From Kashmir to Kerala. From Gujarat to West Bengal. India is beautiful in all its colours. Don't insult the spirit of India," Mr Gandhi said.

During his speech on the motion of thanks on the President's Address in the Lok Sabha, the Congress leader also mentioned India as a union of states.
