New Delhi: Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal wrote to the Chief Ministers of nine states, requesting them to remove hurdles in the 'Dedicated Freight Corridor' (DFC) project, saying that PM Narendra Modi is closely monitoring the project. In a letter to nine chief ministers, Goyal raised the issue of land-related issues, demands of villagers and slow working by state officials, which have adversely affected the work on the Rs 81,000-crore dedicated freight corridor project.
Piyush Goyal has urged the Chief Ministers to intervene in the matter. Following the concerns raised by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), Goyal said in letters to the Chief Ministers of Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, West Bengal, Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Jharkhand that the Dedicated Freight Corridor has been a long-pending issue. Remains, which has not yet been resolved.
According to Railway Board chief VK Yadav, the construction work of two dedicated freight corridors is currently underway - Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) from Uttar Pradesh to Mumbai and Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) from Ludhiana in Punjab to West Bengal K connects Dankuni. The work of these corridors was to be completed by December 2021, but now this date has been extended by six months ahead till June 2022. They reported that work was delayed due to the Coronavirus epidemic.
