New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday reported that the country received 645 heavy rains and 168 heavy rainfall in november, the highest in the month in the last five years. This month recorded 11 heavy rains (more than 204.4 mm), which is equivalent to last year's figure.

According to IMD, north-west India recorded 10.7 per cent more rainfall, the southern peninsula 71 per cent and the entire country 48 per cent more in the months of October and November. According to IMD data, the country has recorded 645 heavy rains (64.5 mm to 115.5 mm) and 168 times heavy rainfall (115.6 mm to 204.5 mm) in November, the highest in the last five years.

IMD said peninsular India received heavy rains ranging from extremely heavy rains, killing 44 people in Andhra Pradesh, 16 in Tamil Nadu and 15 in Karnataka and three in Kerala. The Met department said normal rainfall in November was 56.5 mm as compared to 30.5 mm, or 85.4 percent more. Peninsular India received 160 per cent more rainfall (232.7 mm). Tamil Nadu has received about 75 per cent more rainfall than normal.
