Gangtok: Heavy rain in the last 3 days has disrupted normal life in the last 3 days. Several cases of landslides have been reported in Sikkim following which road connectivity has been badly affected. Tributaries flowing towards Teesta are flowing above the danger mark, which, as before, overtook the banks of a nearby river.

Waterlogging was prevailing in some areas of Siliguri but later the situation returned to normal. Mahananda river, a major river in North Bengal, is in spate due to the rapid rise in water level in Teesta. At present, Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang has requested people to stay indoors during the incessant rains in the state. Reports of roadblocks and landslides are coming to light from different places.

In North Bengal, heavy rains have caused landslides at various places and disrupted traffic on the main roads, even as low-pressure systems have developed over the Ganga basin in the southern parts of West Bengal. The rest of the northeast is reeling under severe heatwave conditions but Sikkim has been receiving heavy rain for the past few days.
