GANDHINAGAR: The Gujarat Government today, January 25, promoted Additional Chief Secretary Raj Kumar as Chief Secretary of the state effective from January 31.

Raj Kumar will take charge on January 31, when Chief Secretary Pankaj Kumar retires from his office. As per the government order, till January 31, Raj Kumar would officiate as officer on Special Duty in Chief Secretary's office.

On December 6, 2021, Raj Kumar was appointed Additional Chief Secretary (Home) after being repatriated from a Central deputation.

Pankaj Kumar, the current chief secretary, was set to leave from his position in the middle of 2022 after attaining retirement age, but his term was extended by six months in anticipation of the state assembly elections.

Vipul Mitra, the second-most senior IAS officer and Additional Chief Secretary, is likely to be named Chairman of Gujarat State Fertilizer Company and any other state-owned corporation in Gujarat, source said.
