Rajasthan: On Saturday, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had "mocked" farmers and referred to them as "andolanjeevi," but that theatrics were missing when he announced the repeal of three farm regulations.  Gehlot stated that the Modi government was "scared" and decided to remove the farm rules under the pressure of assembly elections in five states, including Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.

"The prime minister was making 'latke-jhatke' (gestures) in Parliament, as he always does. "Those 'latke-jhatke' were missing on Friday," Gehlot stated. He also questioned why Modi chose to make the announcement at 9 a.m., when people are getting ready for work and doing home duties.

"Against 15-20 of their representatives (BJP and supporters) made derogatory remarks about farmers." Farmers were referred to as Khalistanis and naxals. Imagine how the 'annadatas' (farmers) felt when such insults were made about them," Gehlot said during the Kisan Vijay Diwas programme in Jaipur.  The farmers were "mocked and laughed" at by Modi and ruling party lawmakers. According to the chief minister, they were all "exposed" on Friday when an apology was offered.

Gehlot said, the BJP was fearful of losing the elections, thus JP Nadda, the defence minister and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Rajnath Singh, and Home Minister Amit Shah were in charge of booth management. "The Constitution and democracy are under jeopardy." "People in authority are fascists who have nothing to do with farmers," he claimed.
