Rajasthan Court Revokes Child Marriage, Married To 10-Month-Old Girl

Jodhpur: A Rajasthan court has quashed the marriage of an 18-year -old girl. Maina, the daughter of a daily wage labourer from Dhannia Bhaila village, was married to a man from Udaisar village on December 26, 2001, when she was just 10 months old. She sought help from Kriti Bharati, a rehabilitation psychologist and managing trustee of the Sarthi Trust. Bharti helped her file a petition in the family court in February for dismissing the marriage.

In Jodhpur, Justice Pradeep Kumar Jain of Family Court-I issued an order on Friday cancelling child marriage. When Maina's in-laws received the information, they went to the Panchs, who pressured Maina and her family to withdraw the petition.
