Jodhpur: A Rajasthan court has quashed the marriage of an 18-year -old girl. Maina, the daughter of a daily wage labourer from Dhannia Bhaila village, was married to a man from Udaisar village on December 26, 2001, when she was just 10 months old. She sought help from Kriti Bharati, a rehabilitation psychologist and managing trustee of the Sarthi Trust. Bharti helped her file a petition in the family court in February for dismissing the marriage.

In Jodhpur, Justice Pradeep Kumar Jain of Family Court-I issued an order on Friday cancelling child marriage. When Maina's in-laws received the information, they went to the Panchs, who pressured Maina and her family to withdraw the petition. The Panchs also threatened to punish Maina's family and boycott her socially.

However, during the court consultation, Maina's husband agreed to cancel the marriage. "The wedding had ruined me," Maina said. The cancellation of child marriage has given me a new life. Now I will study.'
