Jaipur: Dengue continues to wreak havoc in the Congress-ruled state of Rajasthan. The state government's drive on seasonal diseases including dengue is proving to be a failure. The number of patients here has crossed 13,000. If this is the pace, the dengue patient may break the 2-year record in the near future.
It may be recalled that earlier in 2019, the highest number of 13706 patients were received, this year's figure has reached 13007. In such a situation, the number of deaths is also increasing steadily. Meanwhile, 50 people have died of dengue so far. In fact, most of the major hospitals in the state, including Sawai Mansingh Hospital in Jaipur, are witnessing a daily increase in the number of dengue sufferers. Government hospitals are not getting beds. Two to three children are being treated on one bed each at Jekelon Hospital in Jaipur. Doctors say the new dengue variants Denvi-2 and Denvi-3 have increased the risk.
On the other hand, according to health department data, there have been 30 deaths in the state so far, but the fact is that 50 out of 620 patients have lost their lives due to dengue in SMS hospital itself. At present, some patients are dying within 24 to 72 hours of hospitalization.
