Jaipur: An interreligious couple from Rajasthan reached the collectorate in Ajmer on June 23 to seek security after getting married at Arya samaj temple on June 20. The girl's parents, who are Muslims, reached Ajmer Collectorate along with Makrana police officials and forcibly separated the couple. In fact, the incident came to light after the girl allegedly went missing on June 18. The girl's family claimed that their daughter was a minor and was lured into marriage by a Dalit Hindu boy working as a cleaner in Kishangarh municipality of Ajmer district of Rajasthan.

On the other hand, a girl from Makrana town in the Nagaur district of Rajasthan claimed that she was an adult and had married of her own free will. She claimed that her family members are against her marriage and are trying to threaten her husband's family with violence. She feared that her family members, who were angry with the interreligious marriage, would kill her and her husband. The couple had taken shelter at the collectorate in Ajmer on Wednesday (June 23, 2021) fearing a threat to life. But the girl's parents came to know about it. They reached the collectorate along with Makrana police officers and started shouting at the district office. Police and the girl's family claimed that they have documents that prove that the girl is a minor. They accused the youth of luring the minor girl to marry her.

On the other hand, the girl claimed that she was not a minor and had voluntarily married a Dalit youth. The dispute between the girl and her parents then turned into assault. Makrana, who was in the girl's family, then started pulling the girl towards her with the help of police officers, while the girl refused. She started shouting and refused to go with his parents. However, Makrana police overpowered the couple. She was dragged out of the collectorate and arrested while officials from inside the collector's office in Ajmer watched the drama. According to reports, the Muslim girl was produced before the Child Welfare Committee after she separated from her husband and sent to Savitri Bai Phule Girls Hostel in Nagaur. On the other hand, the Dalit youth was arrested and remanded for a day. The Child Welfare Committee will now hear the matter on June 28.
