New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized the importance of adopting Buddhist doctrines to address global conflicts and challenges to the international order. Speaking at a regional security conclave in Laos on Thursday, he highlighted the need for peaceful coexistence and dialogue as solutions to escalating tensions worldwide.

At the 10-nation ASEAN meeting in Vientiane, Laos, Singh stressed that the world is becoming increasingly divided into blocks, putting strain on established international systems. He proposed that embracing the Buddhist principles of peaceful co-existence could help bridge these divides and encourage more constructive global interactions.

"India has long championed dialogue as the best way to resolve complex international issues, whether it's border disputes or trade agreements," Singh noted. He pointed out that open communication fosters trust and cooperation, laying the foundation for stronger international partnerships.

During the conclave, Singh's comments were echoed by his counterparts, including China's Dong Jun. The Indian Defence Minister reinforced India's commitment to peaceful negotiations and underlined that dialogue is essential for ensuring global stability.

Addressing the ongoing situation in the Indo-Pacific, Singh reiterated India's stance on freedom of navigation, unimpeded commerce, and adherence to international law. He also discussed the Code of Conduct for the South China Sea, stressing that it should respect the legitimate rights of nations not directly involved in the negotiations. "The code must align with international law, particularly the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, 1982," he added.

Singh's remarks underscore India's consistent approach of promoting diplomacy and international cooperation to resolve conflicts and ensure peace in the region and beyond.
