Maldives: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who is on a 3-day visit to Maldives, met the President of Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed today, May 2 and discussed a wide range of issues to further strengthen ties between the two nations.
Taking to Twitter, Defense Misnter Rajnath Singh tweeted: "Excellent meeting with HEP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih at the President's Office in Male. We discussed a wide range of issues to further boost the relations between India and Maldives"
It was on Monday that Rajnath Singh reached the Maldives on a three-day official visit. He attended a dinner hosted by his Maldivian counterpart Mariya Didi. At the dinner, a cultural programme was organised, emblematic of the close cultural ties between India and Maldives.
From his part, Maldives Defence Ministry tweeted: "H.E. MariyaDidi hosted a dinner to honour her visiting Indian counterpart H.E. Rajnathsingh. Min Didi reiterated that tonight's dinner was an opportunity to celebrate the
achievements of partnership and to renew their commitment to strengthen cooperation and collaboration,"
Rajnath Singh also met the archipelago's Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid on Monday. His twwitter posts read: "Happy to have met with Maldives' Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid in Male today," .
Earlier, Singh, who is accompanied by Mariya Didi, paid tribute to fallen heroes at the '3rd November Memorial' flag mounting ceremony.
Rajnath Singh will present one Fast Patrol Vessel ship and a Landing Craft to the Maldives National Defence Forces in keeping with India's commitment to enhancing the capabilities of friendly nations and partners in the region. The Defence Minister will visit the nation's active construction sites while he is there and engage with the Indian Diaspora.
In order to successfully manage common issues like marine security, terrorism, radicalization, piracy, trafficking, organised crime, and natural catastrophes, India and the Maldives are collaborating closely.
The Indian Ocean Region's SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision, "Neighbourhood First" strategy, and "India First" policy of the Maldives all aim to cooperate in the development of regional capabilities.
