NEW DELHI: The Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 12 p.m. on Friday, July  21, after the Opposition continued to create uproar over several issues, including increase in Goods and Service Tax (GST) rates, inflation, and 'Agnipath' scheme.

The newly elected Independent Member from Uttar Pradesh, Kapil Sibal, renewed his oath shortly after the day's proceedings got underway because his first one was judged to be improper.

By calling a discussion under Rule 267, the opposition put a stop to all other business. The House was delayed until 12 p.m. by Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu after his unsuccessful attempts to appease the protesting members.

The members were reminded by Naidu that they had wasted a valuable week that belonged to the people and the legislature and that no signs or objects were permitted within the House.

Since the Monsoon Session began on Monday, the opposition members have been protesting in the Upper House.

The opposition benches are calling for a debate on the GST rate increase, the Agnipath programme, the abuse of agencies, and other issues.
