New Delhi: Following a disturbance by the Opposition leaders over the suspension of 12 MPs, the Rajya Sabha has been adjourned till noon on Thursday, December 2. Six members of the Congress have already been suspended, two each from the Trinamool Congress and the Shiv Sena, and one each from the CPI and the CPM- namely Phulo Devi Netam, Chhaya Verma, Ripun Bora, Rajamani Patel, Syed Nasir Hussain, and Akhilesh Prasad Singh; Dola Sen, Shanta Chhetri of the Trinamool Congress; Priyanka Chaturvedi

Rajya Rabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu adjourned the House shortly after starting work on the fourth day of the ongoing winter session amid chaos produced by the Opposition leaders.

After multiple disruptions by the Opposition leaders, the Rajya Sabha was postponed for the day on Wednesday. The Opposition staged similar protests in the Upper House on Tuesday over the suspension of 12 members of the House.

The suspension of these MPs was "in order to defend democracy," according to Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Nadu, who also stated that "it was the House's decision, not the Chair's."

It was following a proposal brought in by the government, that a dozen members of Opposition parties in Rajya Sabha were suspended from the winter session on the opening day on Monday, angering the Opposition and setting the tone for contentious debates.
