Actress Rakhi Gulzar of the '70s is celebrating her 71st birthday today.  She was born on August 15, 1947. She has made several Bollywood hits. She also gave big hits with big actors. Rakhi earned a reputation in the industry, but she failed to succeed in her personal life. In 1973, Rakhi married Gulzar and Gulzar wanted that Rakhi should leave Films After Marriage, but she wanted to work in films.

Rakhi wanted to work in films, but the same thing led to quarrels between the two, and once Gulzar slapped Rakhi in front of everyone. After which she decided not to quit the movies. After the incident, Rakhi got 'Kabhi-Kabhi' offered, Gulzar refused to do the film, but Rakhi refused and Gulzar left to work in the film. The film was a hit too.

Before Gulzar, Rakhi was married to Bengali journalist Ajay Bishwas at the age of 16 (1963). But in two years the two went apart (1965). Rakhi then married Gulzar in 1973. Gulzar became Rakhi's second husband. The relationship soon became bitter. The two separated after a few years of marriage, but the two have not been divorced till date.

On films, Rakhi stepped into films in 1967. She worked in the Bengali film 'Badhu Baran'. From Bengali films, she began to reach Bollywood. She was offered a 'Jeevan Mrityu' with Dharmendra in 1970. She then made Sharmili with Shashi Kapoor (1971). 1971 was crucial for her because all her three films, including 'Laal Patthar' and Paras, were superhits, including her Sharmili released that year.

She then worked in superhits such as Shahzada (1972), Hira Panna (1973), Daag (1973) and Anchal (1980). Her mother's characters in Ram Lakhan, Bajigar and Karan Arjun are memorable. Rakhi Gulzar said in an interview that when she was shooting 'Jeevan Mrityu', she was not able to do a scene well, so director Satyen Bose slapped her.
