Thiruvananthapuram: On May 26, President Ram Nath Kovind will inaugurate the two-day National Women Legislators' Conference-2022, which is being hosted by the Kerala Assembly.

Women members from various legislative bodies across the country, including both Houses of Parliament and state legislative assemblies and councils, will attend the event, which is being held as part of the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' commemorating India's 75th anniversary of independence.

Women ministers from the union and state governments, as well as women speakers, deputy speakers, MPs and MLAs, will be among the attendees, according to state Assembly speaker M B Rajesh, who announced the event at a news conference today.

He emphasised that this is the first time in the country that a national conference of women's representatives has been organised on such a massive scale.

Apart from the inaugural and valedictory sessions and a field excursion on the third day, the two-day conference would examine numerous subjects of contemporary importance centred on women's rights, gender equality, ample women's participation in decision-making bodies, and so on.

Speakers in the session "Constitution and Women's Rights" include Gujarat Assembly Speaker Nimaben Acharya, Lok Sabha MP Kanimozhi, former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, and former Rajya Sabha member Brinda Karat.
