Patna: Today is the birthday of Ram Vilas Paswan, one of India's leading Dalit leaders. Born in Bihar, Ram Vilas Paswan was considered to be such an undisputed king of politics that he was even called the 'weather scientist' of politics. Ram Vilas Paswan, who had worked with six Prime Ministers of the country, passed away at the age of 74. Because of his affable nature, he used to fit into every political groove.

Born on July 5, 1946, in the Khagaria district of Bihar, Paswan was the eldest of three brothers. Ram Vilas Paswan, a promising student in studies, cleared the Bihar Administrative Services examination. Thereafter, he got an appointment to the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police, that is, DSP, in the Police Department. Ram Vilas Paswan himself said in 2016, "In 1969, I was selected in both DSP and MLA simultaneously. Then a friend of mine asked me to tell me what I want to become a government or a servant? That's when I joined politics.''

For the first time, by contesting the by-election from the Aloli seat in Bihar on behalf of the United Socialist Party, he defeated a senior Congress leader and during this, he was only 23 years old. This is where his political career began. After this, in 1977, he set a record that was included in the Guinness Book of World Records. He won from Hajipur by 4.25 lakh votes and broke his own record in 1989 when he won by 5.05 lakh votes.
