Dr. BR Ambedkar's wife, Ramabai Bhimrao Ambedkar, was the primary architect of the Indian Constitution. She was born on February 7, 1898, to a low-class Dalit family and was also known as Ramai or Mother Rama.

She had a significant influence on Babasaheb Ambedkar's life and played a crucial role in enabling him to pursue an international higher education. She also encouraged him in his efforts to bring about social change and fairness. Here are some lesser-known facts about Ramabai Bhimrao Ambedkar in honour of her birthday:

She was born in 1898 by Bhiku Dhatre and Rukmini. From the harbour in Dabhol, her father made money by bringing baskets of fish to the market.

When she was very young, her parents passed away, leaving her and her siblings in Bombay to be reared by her uncles.

In 1906, she wed Babasaheb Ambedkar. Ramabai Ambedkar was nine years old when she married Babasaheb, who was fifteen.

She was a huge advocate for Ambedkar's goals and even pushed him to pursue higher education abroad.
As a sign of affection, Ramabai Ambedkar used to refer to her husband as "Saheb." Ambedkar used to refer to her as Ramu.

While Ambedkar was studying overseas, she experienced great poverty and misery, yet she never stopped supporting him in his efforts to advance social reform.

On May 26, 1935, Ramabai Ambedkar passed away after a protracted illness. For 29 years, she had been married to Ambedkar.

Ambedkar recognised the influence she had on his life by dedicating his 1941 book Thoughts on Pakistan to Ramabai Ambedkar.

The influence of Ramabai Ambedkar on her husband has been shown in some television shows and movies, such as Ek Mahanayak Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. She has also had other locations across the nation named after her.
