Ramanand Sagar was born on 29 December 1917 in Lahore, Pakistan. His childhood name was Chandramouli Chopra. Ramanand was adopted by his grandmother, she gave him the new name Ramanand. After partition, Ramanand's family migrated to India. After which his family's financial condition had become extremely bad. Ramanand started working from an early age to help the family. He had to work as a truck cleaner and peon. He started his career as a writer by reaching Mumbai. He used to write stories and screenplays. Ramanand soon climbed the stairs of success. In 1950, he started the production company Sagar Art Corporation.

Although many serials and films of Ramanand Sagar became popular the one that got the most buzz was Ramayana. The first episode of Ramayana aired on 25 January 1987. The serial ran till 31 July 1988. The Ramayana on Doordarshan used to last 45 minutes (including advertisements) on Sunday morning. However, the rest of the serial used to get a 30-minute slot in that period. When the 78-episode Ramayana was broadcast, curfew-like silence prevailed in the streets of the country. It cannot be imagined in today's era. It is believed that about 10 crore people watched this serial. Arun Govil and Deepika Chiklia, who played the role of Ram and Sita, were worshiped like God. Ramanand Sagar had told all the characters of the serial to keep the conduct better even in real life. It made it to the Limca Book of Records as the most watched Mythological serial in the world.
