There is a lot of discussion about Ramanand Sagara's 'Ramayana'. This old show returned to DD National during lockdown. The show has since broken several TRP records. With this came a day when it also overtook HBO's show 'Game of Thrones'. But this is not the first time Ramayana has become so famous. Adorned with stars like Arun Govil, Deepika Chikhaliya and Sunil Lahiri, this mythological show made its way into India's homes through TV. Its popularity became so much that even the BBC wanted to telecast it.

For this there was also a conversation between Ramanand Sagar and BBC. Actors and makers also went to Britain, but something happened that the deal could not be done. This was also revealed by Ramanand Sagar's son Prem Sagar in an interview given to a media reporter recently. Regarding the matter of buying the rights of BBC, he said, 'They (BBC) wanted to buy the rights of Ramayana for the Asian public. Before signing the contract, Ramanand Sagar, Arun Govil, Arvind Trivedi and I also went to his Liverpull studio for an interview.

For your information, let us tell you that Prem also told how this rights issue did not reach its final stage. Along with this, he told, 'He wanted Arun Govil to parade his characters' Ram' in studios with full dress and mukat, so that he could film it. My father and I realized that this was a deliberate attempt to break the image of Shri Rama, who was worshiped in India. We rejected their point. There was a lot of discussion on telephone between London and Birmingham. At the same time, he refused the contract. In this way the Ramayana could not be broadcast on Bibis.
