The lockdown was ordered by PM Narendra Modi to reduce the outbreak of Coronavirus in the country, which may continue till April 15. After the lockdown, some famous programs of the 80s and 90s were also returned to Doordarshan. Shows like Mahabharata, Ramayana, Byomkesh Bakshi and Circus were present in this list. These TV shows have given the audience happiness, at the same time the good news has also come out for the channel.

Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar has revealed in a tweet that Ramayana got the highest ratings since 2015 under the Hindi GEC (General Entertainment Channel) show, along with a repeat telecast on Doordarshan. Shashi Shekhar has described BARC as his source. It is clear that because of the Ramayana, Doordarshan has also made a record.

According to the report, 34 million (thirty million million) people watched the Ramayana on Doordarshan on Saturday on the first day of the telecast and the rating for that day was 3.4 percent. Thereafter, 45 million (40 million) people watched the Saturday evening broadcast. The ratings for the Saturday evening telecast were 5.2 per cent, along with the increase in the number of viewers watching the Ramayana on Doordarshan on Sunday after the Saturday telecast. Four crore people watched the show, in the evening, this number was 50 million.
