Rampur: In Rampur today, that is, Thursday, a fierce political battle is likely to take place. Agitated over the raid on the Johar University of Azam Khan and questioning of his MLA son Abdullah Azam, Samajwadi Party (SP) activists are gathering in Rampur today to protest. More than 10,000 Samajwadi Party workers and leaders are expected to gather here and the police force is also on alert.
Ak Singh, DM, Rampur, has stated that Section 144 (a gathering of more than 5 people in one area) has already come into force in view of Kanwar Yatra and Bakra Eid in the area. Additional security forces have also been provided here. According to him, we won't allow anyone to enter from the border. Whoever violates the law and order has to be dealt with strictly again.
In view of the SP's performance, the borders of Rampur have been sealed and heavy police deployment has been made for the time being.
Samajwadi Party workers from different parts of Uttar Pradesh will reach the SP office in Rampur at 10:00 pm. Security has been beefed up throughout Rampur in the wake of the protests.
Earlier on Wednesday night, a dharna was staged by Azam Khan's son Abdullah Azam Khan and a dharna was held at the gate of Johar University with party supporters carrying candles. He was then detained by the police for obstructing legal proceedings, after which former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav instructed SP leaders and activists to take to the streets in support of Azam Khan.
