New Delhi: Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala on Wednesday said Rahul Gandhi was the Congress president, has and will remain. We have no doubt about it. He made the statement after an informal meeting with senior Congress leaders. Rahul Gandhi was adamant to resign as Congress president after the shock defeat in the Lok Sabha polls.

As per the information received from sources, the CWC had rejected his proposal to resign as chairman of Rahul Gandhi. But, Rahul contended that the party president should be outside the Nehru-Gandhi family. The meeting was attended by party leaders headed by former union minister and Congress leader AK Antony. The party's strategy and preparedness for the upcoming assembly elections in Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand and Maharashtra were discussed at the end of the year.

The meeting was attended by senior party leaders Ahmed Patel, Mallikarjun Kharge, Ghulam Moisture Azad, P Chidambaram, KC Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh, Anand Sharma, A.K. Antony and Surjewala. Surjewala said that Congress general secretary Venugopal has asked me to inform that a meeting of the general secretaries will be convened soon. It will discuss the review of the Lok Sabha elections and preparations for the forthcoming assembly elections.
