Today is the birthday of Shri Ravi Shankarji, a spiritual and humanist guru known all over the world. He has launched an unprecedented worldwide movement to establish a stress-free and violence-free society. Gurudev has reached an estimated 450 million people so far with a network of organizations including various festivals and courses, art of living and international association for human values and his rapidly growing presence in more than 156 countries. Gurudev has developed unique and impressive events that have empowered, equipped and transformed human beings to meet challenges at global, national, community and private levels.
Born in southern India in 1951, Gurudev was a very talented child. At the age of four, he was able to recite the Bhagavad Gita, and was often found absorbed in meditation. He has both Vedic literature and physics degrees. In 1982, Gurudev went into ten days of silence in Shimoga, in the state of Karnataka, India, where a powerful breath technique, Sudarshan Kriya, was born. Over time, Sudarshan Kriya became the focal point of art of living courses.
Gurudev established the Art of Living as an international, non-profit, educational and humanistic organization. The art of living's educational and self-development celebrations provide powerful means of promoting the spirit of welfare by eliminating stress.
