John Abraham’s much hyped film RAW - Romeo Akbar Walter finally released today. Robbie Grewal directorial is a spy drama which is based in 1971 in which John Plays Romeo.

Talking about the story of the film it is about a banker Rehmat Ali aka Romeo, who is chosen by the RAW chief (Jackie Shroff) to be an Indian spy in Pakistan. Leaving his mother behind, Romeo takes the identity of Akbar Malik and migrates to Pakistan. The rest of the movie is about how Akbar helped India during the period that led to the 1971 war and his journey to becoming Walter.

The first half of the film demands your patience for a good amount of the first hour. It is quite dawdling and takes its own time for the setup and build up. For the first hour, you might feel that nothing's really happening and many scenes may seem unnecessary, but by the end of the film, it all makes sense.  The writing is good. The screenplay is uneven.

Talking about direction. Robbie Grewal has some interesting films to his credit. After a whodunit, a teen romance and a comedy, Robbie helm this highly sensitive film with quit panache and authenticity. As aforementioned, there have been many espionage thrillers made in India in the past but Romeo Akbar Walter is the most grounded one. There is no machoism, heroism or even jingoism which makes RAW a unique experience.

John Abraham has performed well. Playing a spy, his eyes do the talking for the most part. Jackie Shroff is at the top of his game. Not only he looks suave as RAW chief, but has also delivered a solid performance. Mouni Roy also done her part very well. Sikandar Kher is superb. It's actually when his character makes an entry, the movie picks up the pace. Raghubir Yadav is also brilliant.

Overall, Romeo Akbar Walter is another interesting film from John Abraham. The movie has enough twists and turns to keep you intrigued and engaged. If you want to watch a good film you can go for it.
