RBI MPC focus: Sensex climbs 1016pt, Nifty above 17,450

 The key benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty finished higher Nn Wednesday,  for the second day in a row after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) kept key interest rates steady. The Sensex closed at 58,649.68, up 1,016.03 points, or 1.76 percent, and the Nifty was at 17,469.80, up 293.10 points, or 1.71 percent. About 2270 shares have increased in value, 941 shares have decreased in value, and 121 shares have remained steady.

The top Nifty gainers included Bajaj Finance, Hindalco Industries, Maruti Suzuki, SBI, and Bajaj Finserv. HDFC Life, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Power Grid Corp, Divis Labs, and IOC were among the losers. Reliance Industries rose 1.6 percent to Rs 2,420 after announcing a USD 2 billion joint venture with TAZIZ to build the company's first chemical facility in West Asia.

The broader markets likewise ended the day with significant gains. The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices were both up 1.4 percent and 1.5 percent, respectively. On the BSE, the overall breadth was optimistic, with more thaN two gaining shares for every dropping stock.

The BSE Auto index gained 2.3 percent and was the most percentage gainer among sectoral indices. The rest of the major indices, including Energy, FMCG, Healthcare, IT, Bankex, Metal, Oil & Gas, and Realty, all rose 1-2 percent. Reliance Industrial Infrastructure soared beyond 19 to set a new 2-year high in the broader markets. In the last two trading weeks, the stock has risen by 62 percent.
