New Delhi: The RBI dismissed the reports on social media as baseless, which said that 9 commercial banks of the country are closed. The Reserve Bank termed such reports as incorrect and said that no bank is closing. Finance Secretary Rajiv Kumar has termed such social media messages as 'mischievous'. He said that such messages shared in which it is being said that the government is in the process of stopping the public sector banks from giving capital.

"Reports appearing on certain sections of social media about the closure of certain commercial banks by the central bank are false," the RBI said in a statement. Messages have been circulating on various social media platforms that nine banks will be closed permanently by the RBI and the public is being appealed to withdraw their money from banks. The Finance Secretary said in a tweet, "There is no question of closing any government bank.
