Madrid: Real Madrid beat third-placed Sevilla 2-1 at home with a goal from Vinicius Jr. three minutes from time to maintain their lead in La Liga. The Brazilian gathered the ball on the left flank before cutting inside and firing an unstoppable shot from the edge of the area to put his team four points ahead of Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad.

Rafa Mir's free header in the 12th minute gave Sevilla the lead, and they moved the ball with relative ease as Real Madrid failed to apply pressure late on Sunday night.

On the half-hour, Lucas Ocampos curled a shot against the Real Madrid post, and three minutes later, Sevilla goalkeeper Bono gifted Madrid an equaliser. Eder Militao's 40-yard shot didn't appear dangerous, but the goalkeeper botched his save, forcing the ball into the post and handing the ball to Benzema for a simple tap-in.

Vinicius' goal came just as a draw seemed probable, but Sevilla were still close to equalising, with Thibaut Courtois clawing Thomas Delaney's shot off the line, according to Xinhua. Real Sociedad's title hopes appear to be fading after a 1-0 loss to Espanyol, who scored 15 minutes from time due to Yangel Herrera's deflected strike. Real Sociedad had a goal ruled off after the ball hit referee Mateu Lahoz in the buildup, and Diego Lopez was another of Espanyol's heroes with some outstanding saves.
