New Delhi: A record rise in GDP, a strong jump in GST collections has brought bad news to the country amid positive reports. The unemployment rate in the country has increased in August and nearly 1.6 million people became unemployed. This information was revealed in the Data of the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE).

According to CMIE, the unemployment rate rose to 8.32 percent in August as compared to 6.95 percent in July. According to CMIE data, the urban unemployment rate rose nearly 1.5 percent to 9.78 percent in August. The urban unemployment rate in the country was 8.3 percent in July. Similarly, the rural unemployment rate has also increased from 1.3 percent to 7.64 percent in August. It was 6.34 percent in July. According to the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), the number of people working fell from 39.93 crores in July to 39.77 crores in August. During this period, 1.3 million jobs were lost in rural areas.

The data from the recently released GDP released by the government for the April to June quarter appears to have put the Indian economy back on track. The first quarter of FY21-22 has seen excellent figures for GDP. The growth rate of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the first quarter has been recorded at a record 20.1 percent. But even after such a sharp GDP growth, the rise in unemployment in August is alarming.
