Delhi University: 378 permanent teachers to be recruit after 7 years!

The Delhi University has set in motion the recruitment process by inviting for the posts of 378 permanent teachers across departments. This major step has been taken after 7 years.

A DU official said that “the university has invited online applications for 378 posts of assistant professors in 41 departments and centers, which include 187 general category posts, 100 OBC, 55 SC, 29 ST and seven posts for persons with disabilities.”

Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) has given this directive for filling up the vacant posts. From the past seven years the central university, have been largely dependent on ad-hoc teachers, the vacancies came out after 2009.

What a DU official Said: "The university has invited online applications for 378 posts of assistant professors in 41 departments and centers, which include 187 general category posts, 100 OBC, 55 SC, 29 ST and seven posts for persons with disabilities," a DU official said.

Views of HRD minister on the matter: Last year HRD minister Prakash Javadekar has said that his ministry will start a recruitment drive in all major institutions and by 2018 all the vacant positions will be filled.

The teachers of Delhi University have been protesting for a long time against the freeze on hiring and submitted memorandums to the HRD ministry. The ministry has stated that ad-hoc appointments should not exceed 5 percent of faculty strength.

With the Academic and Executive councils passing the University Grants Commission's amendment on teachers' recruitment last December, the way for the recruitment process cleared.
