Cairo: In a tragic incident, a boat capsized off the Mediterranean coast of Egypt, due to which atleast 42 persons were killed as boat having around 600 refugees on board. The misfortune happened on Wednesday near Kafr al-Shiekh governorate.
According to a senior official, “the boat was carrying mainly Egyptians, Syrians, Sudanese, Eritrean and Somali migrants. At least 10 women and two children were among the victims.”
As per the reports, some 150 survivors were rescued by the coast guard from the boat, and it means that some 400 were still missing. The boat leaved from a point between Rashid and Baltim, where the coast is not very populated. Usually, the boat carrying emigrants depart from this area with most of them bound for the Italian mainland.
