The technical advisory committee, set up by the health and family welfare department and headed by
Dr MK Sudarshan strictly advises to stopping all members of the public from attending this year’s Dasara celebrations. “In view of the ongoing pandemic, it is strongly recommended to make Dasara 2020 celebrations virtual for the public,’’. The committee added an RT-PCR covid-19 negative report is a must for all those attending the event.

The discussion and regulations for Dasara festival is because of the high number of CVOVID-19 positive cases in Mysore. Mysore ranks second in the higher number of COVID 19 cases and deaths in Karnataka. As on October 10, 2020 the total number of COVID 19 cases in Mysuru is 41,523 and number of deaths 875. The active cases as on October 11 are 7350. Everyday more than 500 cases are been registered. The technical advisory committee suggests a total of 200 people with RT-PCR COVID 19 negative report for the opening ceremony with all COVID-19 precautions. Jamboo Savari processions, the major attraction of Dasara at the Mysore palace has been restricted for a mere 300 persons due to the pandemic. The committee also advice to cut short the culture programmes at the palace ground to two hours per day by local artists and the group should not exceed 50 persons.

The Mysore Palace administration and the Government is says it will to cooperate and imply the advisory committee suggestions for betterment of the people along with COVID-19 mangemnet protocol. Online telecast of the mysuru dasara events has been planned.
