New Delhi: Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has given a blunt reply to China over the confrontation on the Line of Actual Control (LAC). He has said that relations with China can be restored only when there is peace and tranquility in the border areas. The Foreign Minister said that the talk of normalizing relations without peace on the border is baseless. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has described the deployment of Chinese troops on the 'frontline' as the main problem.

"India also wants to improve relations with China, but this is possible only when there is peace and tranquillity in the border areas," Jaishankar told the press on the occasion of the completion of nine years of the Modi government at the Center. He made it very clear to China that unless there is peace and tranquillity in the border areas, the relations between the two countries cannot move forward. Referring to the situation on the northern border and the country's stand against China's Belt and Road initiative, Jaishankar said today's India is not affected by any pressure, greed and misinformation.

The 'Belt and Road' initiative is a China-sponsored scheme to develop infrastructure in countries in Asia, Africa and Europe on the basis of the old Silk Road. India and China have been locked in a standoff in some areas of conflict in eastern Ladakh for more than three years. However, after several rounds of military and diplomatic talks between the two countries, both sides have withdrawn from some areas.
