New Delhi: Reliance Jio has targeted TRAI's review of Interconnection User Fee (IUC). Describing it as anti-poor, Jio has said that it is against PM Modi's Digital India campaign. Jio has termed any tampering as arbitrary and anti-poor by the deadline to abolish the IUC. Jio said that this is also legally wrong. Targeting TRAI, Jio said that its attitude on IUC would affect the credibility of the regulator.

It said that this would also dampen the confidence of investors in the telecom sector. After TRAI's review, Jio claimed that any change in the implementation date of January 1, 2020 would end the round of free calls and increase the charges, which would not be in the interest of consumers. It is to be known that the telecom operator has to pay to fulfill his customer's call on another company's network.

In this, the rival network has to pay IUC, which is currently six paise per minute. TRAI is reviewing to extend the deadline for termination of IUC from January 2020 onwards. Because of this, Jio has imposed a fee of six paise per minute on its customers. Jio alleges that the Prime Minister is emphasizing on Digital India, while people are being removed from this right by imposing 'IUC'.
