Mumbai : Private sector telecom companies in the country, Vodafone, Reliance Jio and Idea, paid dues of about Rs 94 crores to the Department of Telecommunications. According to information received from sources, Vodafone Idea has given Rs 54.52 crore while Reliance Jio has given around Rs 39.1 crore. There was no response from Reliance Jio when asked about this, while according to a Vodafone Idea spokesperson, the company does not comment on business-related matters. Let us tell you that companies have the facility of instalments to pay the arrears of the spectrum. The government has given them this facility.

Last year, the government had increased the number of instalments from 10 to 16 in order to ensure that the troubled telecom sector does not have any difficulty in paying spectrum. Recently, Vodafone Group Chairman Gerard Clisterly and Chief Executive Officer Nick Reid met Telecom Secretary Anshu Prakash. In this meeting, the company said that the recovery of the payment of its spectrum should be postponed for two years, besides the company has also sought other relief measures.

The British telecom giant claimed to have focused on the successful integration of business between Vodafone and Idea. Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Jio offering all kinds of facilities to the users has increased competition in the telecom sector, which has led to a decline in profits of companies, as well as their debt. Let us tell you that after the move of Jio in the market, tremendous competition has arisen in this business.
