Remembering Dharampal Gulati, the 'King of Spices' on his birthay

Honourable Padma Bhushan Mahashay Dharampal Gulati Ji born on 27 March, 1927. 

Gulati, who was fondly called Dadaji or Mahashayji, is a fifth-grade school dropout. As per his profile on MDH's website, in 1937, he set up with the help of his father a small business of looking mirrors and thereafter soap business and carpentry job, cloth merchant, hardware business and  rice trading.

Gulati relocated to Karol Bagh in Delhi after the division. Gulati bought a tonga, a horse-drawn carriage, for Rs 650 using the roughly Rs 1500 he received from his father. He soon realised that his meagre income was insufficient to sustain his family, so he opened a spice-grinding business on Ajmal Khan Road. There was no turning back after that. In order to build their first factory, Gulati hired a second store in Chandni Chowk in 1953 and purchased a land in Kirti Nagar in 1959.

Mahashay Dharampal Gulati, the owner of well-known spices giant 'MDH', has died at the age of 98.  He died of a heart attack. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2022

Dharampal Gulati was often seen on television promoting his company. He is known as the oldest ad star. He studied only till the fifth, but in the business world, he beats big businessmen. Right now he has 18 factories which Supply spices across the world. MDH Company manufactures around 62 products.

Born in Sialkot, Pakistan in the year 1927, Dharampal Gulati left his studies only after the fifth. A few years later, with the help of his father, he started a small glass business. He tried his hand in many small things. Spice work was already done in his house. He started working wholeheartedly in this and today his company has a different identity in the whole world. He achieved a different position with his hard work and dedication.
