The revolt by Mangal Pandey is known to be one of the first act of the Indian Rebellion Act of 1857. Mangal Pandey was hanged till death at the age of 29 on April 8, 1857.

Today, April 8 marks the death anniversary of Mangal Pandey, the great son of the country and the first freedom fighter to be the first freedom fighter. Whatever he has done for this nation, it is difficult to describe in words. Even the youth of today can't even think of doing it. Today, on his death anniversary, we will share some things related to this great son of India that every Indian need to know...

Mangal Pandey joined the Bengal Army in 1849, after being born into a Hindu Brahmin family in Nagwa, a village in the upper Ballia region of the Ceded and Conquered Provinces (now in Uttar Pradesh). He is also credited with spreading news of the 1857 Sepoy Rebellion throughout India. He was executed by hanging on April 8, 1857, for insurrection against the British. The first uprising against the British East India Company occurred in 1857.

The name of Mangal Pandey spread panic among the British. The fear was that he was hanged 10 days before the date of his sentence. Mangal Pandey was to be hanged on April 18, 1857, but due to Pandey's fear, he was hanged 10 days ago.

The patriotism that Mangal Pandey had created across the country can be gauged from the fact that even the hangmen of Barrackpore jail refused to hang him.

Mangal Pandey was a fearless revolutionary, when the British asked him to use cartridges, he flatly refused to use it. The army was then ordered to arrest Pandey. However, the army refused to obey the order of the British officer.
