Remembering Manohar Parrikar on his 5th Death Anniversary
Share:
Manohar Parrikar was an Indian politician and leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party who served as Chief Minister of Goa from 14 March 2017 until his death. Previously, he was Chief Minister of Goa from 2000 to 2005 and from 2012 to 2014 and from 2017 to 2019.

On 27 October 2018, the Government of Goa announced that Parrikar had pancreatic cancer. He died on 17 March 2019 at the age of 63 from pancreatic cancer at his residence in Panaji.

Manohar Parrikar, a former chief minister of Goa, has an inspiring life story. The politician, who was among the most influential people, travelled in a humanitarian manner to get to his destination. Manohar Parrikar's rise to power and personal life are vividly portrayed in Sadguru Patil and Mayabhushan Nagvenkar's upcoming biography, An Incredible Life: A Biography of Manohar Parrikar. It will be released later this month and is published by Penguin Random House India.

After the Goa State Secretariat's post-cabinet news conference, a reporter and his female colleague sprinted after the chief minister, who had already reached the narrow hallway leading from the conference room to his office. It's challenging to keep up with Parrikar, whose lengthy strides quickly take up space. The two reporters scurried after him in an effort to get his attention and provide an elevator pitch for the cabinet note.

When Parrikar first entered politics all those years ago, his connection with the media in Goa did not have any negative connotations. He was actually quite a media favourite. And the arguments were largely convincing. When Parrikar was initially elected to the state legislative assembly in Panaji, he stood out in the enormous sea of incomprehensible, Dictaphone tape-eating politicians. He was sharp, concise, and well-spoken, and he could rattle off statistics and figures faster than a magician could pull a rabbit out of a hat.
