Every person who considers and claims ownership of this Bharat Bhumi, this land from the Indus to the seas, as both his Fatherland and Holyland, i.e. the place of his religion's inception, is a Hindu. Hence, the so-called indigenous or hill tribes are also Hindus because India is both their Fatherland and their Holyland, regardless of the religion or form of worship they practise.

In 1964, Savarkar felt his purpose in life was fulfilled as India had gained freedom and it was time to leave. So he declared his wish to attain samadhi and started a hunger strike on February 1, 1966. He passed away on February 26, 1966.Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had described Savarkar as the "remarkable son of India". In 1970, her government also issued a postal stamp in Savarkar's honour.
