Thiruvananthapuram: Legendary Actor and musician R Subbalakshmi passed away in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday. She was 87.

 Battling age-related illnesses, her departure marks the end of an era. With a remarkable career, Subbalakshmi's contributions as a former All India Radio employee and music instructor at Jawahar Balbhavan are remembered fondly.

Her journey to fame soared with her unforgettable performance in 'Kalyanaraman,' paving the way for her appearances in over 75 movies across Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi cinema. Notable among her Malayalam ventures were movies like 'Nandanam,' 'Pandippada,' 'CID Moosa,' and 'Thilakkam.' Additionally, she graced the Telugu remake of 'Kalyanaraman' with her presence.

Beyond the silver screen, Subbalakshmi's versatility shone through various TV commercials, serials, and shows, amassing a repertoire of over 65 serials. Her impactful roles in Doordarshan's 'Valayam' and 'Gandharvayamam' stand testament to her multifaceted talent. Moreover, she lent her voice to films as a dubbing artist and showcased her singing prowess in movies like 'Marykkundoru Kunjadu' and 'Ammini.'

She is survived by three children, including actor and dancer Thara Kalyan. The legacy she leaves behind in the world of entertainment remains etched in the hearts of many.
