Bhopal: In Madhya Pradesh, before the monsoon, the Public Works Department has been preparing to save the shabby bridges from accidents. There are about 400 bridge-culverts in all the districts, which get submerged in rain. To save it, the construction department has started working. The bridges that were destroyed during the monsoon last year have not yet been rebuilt. Now the department has started a massive action to repair old bridges and install warning boards etc. Last year, during the monsoon, there were four incidents related to bridges and culverts in the state, due to which the functioning and quality of the department has started to be questioned. These demolished bridges are yet to be rebuilt.

There is pressure on the department to survey all the bridges and culverts before 15 June and take necessary protective measures and repairs on the dilapidated bridges. The bridge section of Public Works Department has asked its executive engineers in all the districts to prepare a list of all the culverts and to take alternative measures to ensure that traffic on the dangerous bridges is not obstructed in coordination with the district administration.

Instructions have been given to put warning indicators on the bridges and culverts. It has also been said that the bridges and culverts which are submerged in the rain, its pipe railings should be removed. It is also told that there is a list of about 350 to 400 such bridges and culverts in the seven divisions of the state, where they get submerged in rain. An alternative route has also been asked to make traffic on the under-construction bridges and bridges not obstructed.
