Sumit Sattawan, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate of Lakhimpur, has issued 144 CrPC across the district by order No. LMG. 3/2019/108 dated January 21 in order to celebrate the 73rd Republic Day in a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere. On the eve or during the celebration of the national holiday, this step was used to check apprehension, the chance of disturbances, and extremist activities posing a threat to public peace and harmony in various parts of the district.

The order prohibits gatherings of five or more people in public areas, with the exception of marketplaces, religious sites, and locations where the Republic Day ceremony would be held. It is also illegal for any individual or group to carry firearms or lethal weapons without first getting permission from the District Magistrate. The rule also prohibits the use of all types of two-wheelers with pillion riders. This injunction will not apply to women pillion riders with children in their laps, school-aged children, magistrates on duty, or uniform police officers. The retaining of any objects, bags, or other items abandoned in marketplaces or public areas is also prohibited.
