NEW DELHI: Among the 106 Padma awardees for the year 2023 are Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla, late Samajwadi Party patron Mulayam Singh Yadav, educator and philanthropist Sudha Murty, and late ace investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced on Wednesday on the eve of the 74th Republic Day.

President Droupadi Murmu has approved the presentation of 106 Padma Awards in 2023. 6 Padma Vibhushan, 9 Padma Bhushan, and 91 Padma Shri awards are included on the list. There are 19 female award recipients on the list, along with two foreigners, NRIs, PIOs, OCIs, and seven posthumous recipients.

Mulayam Singh Yadav, late ORS pioneer Dilip Mahalanabis, musician Zakir Hussain, mathematician Srinivas Varadhan and politican S M Krishna will receive Padma Vibhushan. Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away on October 10 at the age of 82. He was the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh for 3 terms - 1989, 1993 and 2003. Sudha Murty, Kumar Mangalam Birla are among the nine awardees of Padma Bhushan.

Among the nine recipients of the Padma Bhushan are Sudha Murty and Kumar Mangalam Birla. well-known South Indian playback singer and philosopher SL Bhyrappa Others who have received the Padma Bhushan award include Vani Jairam, an accomplished professor of theoretical physics from India, Deepak Dhar, Swami Chinna Jeeyar, Suman Kalyanpur, Kapil Kapoor, and spiritual teacher Kamlesh D. Patel.

Radheshyam Rakesh Jhunjhunwala (posthumous), M M Keeravaani, and actress Raveena Ravi Tandon are three of the 91 recipients of the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian honour in the nation. On August 14, 2022, Jhunjhunwala, described to as India's Warren Buffett, passed away.

Expert snake-catchers from the Irula tribe in Tamil Nadu, Vadivel Gopal, and Masi Sadiyan, were among those conferred with the Padma Shri. Vedic philosopher Sukama Acharya, Dronacharya awardee, an Indian cricket coach Gurcharan Singh and Indian fine artist Jodhaiyabai Baiga have also been awarded.

'Padma Vibhushan' is awarded for outstading and distinguished service; 'Padma Bhushan' for distinguished service of high order and 'Padma Shri' for distinguished service in any field.
