New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has taken another major step towards the scheme to help the visually impaired people identify the notes. The central bank has selected a company to build a mobile app. On September 6, the Reserve Bank had told the Bombay High Court that the proposed mobile application would not require internet. The RBI document states that 16 manufacturers (vendors) had shown interest in building a mobile-based app and shortlisted five companies in the 'final ranking'.

It states that Daffodil Software Pvt Ltd has been selected to develop the app. Currently, banknotes of 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 2,000 rupees are running in the market. Banknote identification is necessary for the visually impaired to make cash-based transactions successful. Identification marks based on 'intaglio printing' have been provided to help the visually impaired to identify the note. These signs are present in notes of 100 rupees and above. This app will be helpful in identifying the notes of Mahatma Gandhi series and Mahatma Gandhi (new) series.

For this, the person has to take the note in front of the camera of the phone and take it back. If the picture of the note is taken correctly, then the app will give information about the value of the note to the visually impaired person through audio notifications. If the picture is not taken correctly or there is a problem in reading the note, the app will inform you to try again. The number of visually impaired people in the country is around 8 million. They will benefit from this RBI initiative.
