New Delhi: The national capital's air pollution appears to be unabated. The city's skyline was filled with haze and smoke two days after Diwali was celebrated with many people defying the ban on firecrackers. According to the latest estimates updated by the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research, the air quality in Delhi continued to deteriorate on Saturday morning, with the Air Quality index (AQI) reaching 533. (SAFAR). PM10 is still the most prevalent pollutant. The city's air quality reached 500 on Friday evening, the highest level in five years.

According to SAFAR estimates updated at 6.30 a.m., several areas in the national capital, including Delhi University, PUSA, Lodhi Road, Mathura Road, IIT-Delhi, and Indira Gandhi International Airport (Terminal 3), had AQIs of 580, 520, 548,540, 623, and 488, respectively.

According to SAFAR, an AQI between 51 and 100 is considered' satisfactory' or 'very good,' 101-200 is considered "moderate,' and 201-300 is considered 'poor.' While levels between 300 and 400 are considered 'very poor,' those between 401 and 500 are considered 'hazardous.' On Saturday morning, pollution levels in the National Capital Region (NCR) were also in the 'severe' category, with AQI readings of 591 and 452 in Gurugram and Noida, respectively.
