New Delhi: On Friday, Retail petrol and diesel prices were increased for the second consecutive day. After today’s rate revision, petrol became dearer by 14-15 paise a litre while diesel prices were raised by 15-16 paise per litre across major cities of the country. In Delhi, petrol prices went up to Rs 71.29 a litre as against Rs 71.15 on Thursday while diesel price climbed to Rs 66.48 per litre as compared to Rs 66.33 on Thursday. Worthing mentioning here is that petrol and diesel prices in Delhi are the cheapest among all metros and most state capitals due to lower taxes.

In Mumbai, petrol is retailing at Rs 76.93, 14 paise higher than yesterday’s rate while diesel costs Rs 69.63 a litre, 16 paise higher than yesterday's price. Citizens in Chennai have to shell out Rs 74.02 for a litre of petrol while diesel is sold at Rs 70.25 per litre. Retail petrol price in Kolkata went up by 14 paise to Rs 73.39, from Rs 73.25 recorded on Thursday. Diesel prices too have raised in Kolkata by 15 paise from yesterday’s rate price of Rs 68.12 a litre. In Gurugram, petrol price went up by 9 paise to Rs 71.84 as against Rs 71.75 on Thursday and diesel price hiked to Rs 65.99. Petrol in Noida became costlier by 11 paise to Rs 71 while diesel price raised to Rs 65.58 per litre.

However, in the international oil market, crude prices went up by about 5 per cent in the last 7 days. However, crude prices dropped on Friday following the United States reported its crude output hit a record 12 million barrels per day (bpd). International Brent crude futures were at trading USD 66.87 per barrel, down 20 cents, or 0.3 per cent, from their last close.
