Whenever people talk about 'Kargil', an image of soldiers holding a flag, reporting victory over the enemy comes to mind. On Kargil Vijay Diwas, people who lost their loved ones remember them.

Retired Captain Wali Mohammed has been a witness of this victory. He also participated in the war fought with the neighbouring enemy Pakistan 21 years ago and Wali Mohammed also contributed to defeating the enemy. Wali Mohammad believes that the most important year of his life has been 1999. He says that "It was in the evening and my posting was in Siliguri Sikna. Only then does the Engineering Services Battalion get the information that deployment has been done in the Leh area, then we have to leave the same time."

Wali Mohammed recalls the moment that 6454 soldiers were posted on Kargil hills. The height of the mountains was so high that upon seeing the spirit trembled. We had prepared the way from the middle of the mountains. For almost a month, we did not even realize when the sunset and when the new dawn arrived. The neighbouring country of Pakistan was constantly doing nefarious activities. At the same time, we had also intended to give a befitting reply to the enemy."

The 61-year-old Mohammed, further states that the parents had asked him to do anything for the country. On the martyrdom of his colleagues in Kargil, Vali says that I wish I had been martyred in place of my colleagues. Even today, when I hear the news of Pakistan conspiring against India, I tell myself that this country is not trust-worthy."
