Retired Navy officer assaulted for sharing CM Thackeray's cartoon on WhatsApp

Mumbai: A 62-year-old retired naval officer was assaulted by alleged Shiv Sena activists for sharing a cartoon on CM Uddhav Thackeray on WhatsApp in Maharashtra on Friday, police said. Four people have been arrested, police said. An official said the incident took place at around 11.30 a.m. in the Lokhandwala complex area of the suburb of Kandivali.

"Retired naval officer Madan Sharma had sent a cartoon on CM Uddhav in a WhatsApp group. Some Shiv Sena workers went to his house and assaulted him, Sharma suffered an eye injury and he was treated in hospital. The official said, "A case has been registered against six persons under section 325 of the Indian Penal Code and provisions relating to the riots. He said Kamlesh Kadam and three others were taken to rest late in the evening. The matter is under investigation.

In a tweet, former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said, "Very sad and shocking incident. The retired naval officer was murdered by goons because he had just forwarded a WhatsApp message. Respected Uddhav Thackeray Ji, we demand stringent action and punishment against these goons."
