New Delhi: Indian Railways is considered one of the largest recruiters in the world. Thirteen lakh employees work here. The central government has started to move towards privatization of railways. The Government of Railways has started the process of outsourcing non-core activities by re-assessing the requirement of employees in various departments. For this, new criteria have been set by the Railway Board for the requirement of employees for various tasks.

The general managers have been asked to re-assess the number of employees required for various tasks in each department and find out how many jobs can be outsourced as per the new norms. So that the railways can be freed from the burden of surplus government employees and reduce the salary and other expenses. The reply was given in the Lok Sabha by the Central Government that there are 13 lakh employees in the Railways. And the government wants to reduce their number to 10 lakh.

For this, the work, physical and mental health, attendance and punctuality of 1.19 lakh officers of Group A and Group B have been reviewed between 2014 and 2019. It has been decided to retire these disabled officers prematurely using the rights conferred under the 'Premature Retirement Clause' of the Service Rules. In fact, the government believes that if Indian Railways have to compete with Japan and China and provide world-class and high-speed services to the public, then it has to become efficient and competitive. For information, let us tell you that Indian Railways has been running in deficit for a long time. Many questions have been raised about this.
