Rice verses chapatti has always been a controversial topic for losing weight.

Rice that is polished especially white rice, which looks white due to the removal of fibre rich outer covering causes most of the micro-nutrients to be washed away. Thus, white rice is devoid of B complex vitamins, iron and calcium. Go for Brown or unpolished rice that could be a good replacement for white rice which retains almost all micro-nutrients.

Whole wheat flour, the main ingredient in chapattis, is high in fibre, protein and minerals like iron, calcium, selenium, potassium and magnesium. Thus, nutrient content wise, chapattis are healthier than rice.

Fibre is very essential to maintain comfortable bowel movements.  Roti’s are rich in complex carbohydrates. They are also a rich source of fibre. Rice on the other hand does not provide us with so much of dietary fibre when compared to rotis.

Rice is a low carbohydrate diet while roti is rich in complex carbohydrates. The process of these enzymes breaking down the complex carbohydrates leads to much more calorie consumption. Thus if you consume rice, there is a lesser amount of energy needed to break down the carbohydrate particles than roti.
Most people complain about feeling lethargic after eating rice. The intake of rice causes a fast blood sugar spike. Whereas, after eating chapatti you feel full and you don’t tend to feel lazy.

Both rice and roti’s are healthy grains and have their own positive and negative points. So take these factors into consideration before you include rice or rotis in your meal.
